The games are coming thick and fast and we are now looking down the barrel at gameweek 18. The deadline is fast approaching, but before we look at this weeks captaincy picks, here’s a breakdown of how last weeks picks did:
1. Jamie Vardy – 5 points
2. Marcus Rashford – 2 points
3. Saido Mane – 6 points
Differential – Gabriel Jesus – 5 point
Gamble – Tammy Abraham – 2 points
Fingers crossed for better returns this week, here’s our top picks for the up coming gameweek:
1. Marcus Rashford (WAT)
In a week where seemingly everyone faces each other, it should come as no surprise to see Rashford as the number one pick for captaincy this week! It was his first blank last week against Everton for the first time since gameweek 9, scoring 7 times and assisting 3, which is a terrific record that seemingly went a bit under the radar with Vardy bang in form too. Amazingly, hes still only owned by 25% of FPL managers, half of how many own Vardy, and with them taking on bottom-placed Watford, I think he should add to his goal tally!
2. Neal Maupay (SHU)
Two birds with one stone if you captain Maupay, because a) he’s in bang in form, scoring three on the bounce, and b) he’s an ultra-differential, being owned by only 1% of FPL managers! He’s a much better option from Brighton that Connolly and Trossard, and his form these past few weeks has taken his tally to 7 for the season, again another player who has fell well under the radar!
3. Kevin De Bruyne (LEI)
What a performance that was last week from De Bruyne against Arsenal. He made them look like children in the first half, making the game look so incredibly easy, scoring twice and assisting Sterling for one too. There’s no stopping him when he’s in that sort of form, however he has a tough challenge against Leicester coming up, who have a phenomenal defensive record this season, conceding one of the fewest goals in the top 5 leagues! Man City very rarely don’t score, and with De Bruyne in such good form, you’ve got to consider captaining him, despite how good Leicester have been.
Differential – Richarlison (ARS)
I have no idea how the Everton v Arsenal game will pan out. Both sides recently sacked their managers, both teams have identified managers to replace them, so both will have that ‘new-manager’ bounce, so it should really finish 6-6. Or 0-0, depending on what way you want to look at it! Seriously though, Richarlison has been class for Everton these past few weeks, and while he may not always get goals or assists, he is definitely Everton’s main attacking threat. He scored 4 and assisted twice in the last 7 weeks under Ferguson and Silva, and I think he may continue his good run of form, especially if new manager Ancelotti is in the stands watching.
Gamble – Son Heung-Min (CHE)
Like I said before, it feels like every team is playing each other! Tottenham face Chelsea this week and again, I can’t really predict how it’ll go. Chelsea look really good, but seemingly keep conceding really unfortunate goals, and Spurs are scoring for fun since they appointed Mourinho. He did blank last week, and with a hectic period coming up, I actually don’t think Son will play the full 90 this week, hence why he’s a gamble, but considering his form it’s be hard not to be tempted to captain him this week!
