Ahmed Hegazi – Fantasy Football Potential

West Bromwich Albion have acquired a new defender in the name of Ahmed Hegazi from Middle Eastern team Al Ahly on a loan deal for the entire 2017/18 season. The deal for the 26 year old has also a loan to buy clause if he impresses manager Tony Pulis.

This is what Pulis said about Ahmed Hegazi:

“We’re pleased he’s here, he’s a good addition”

“He’s got a good pedigree & played for some good clubs. Hopefully he’ll be a good signing for us. With it being a loan deal, if he does well, we’ve already agreed a deal. It’s really, really good for us.”

Hegazi’s most recent club was Al Ahly, where statistics are hard to acquire to say the least. With that said however, Hegazi only made 1 appearance for Egypt in the African cup of nations and was sent on loan to Fiorentina in the 2015/16 season and failed to make an appearance as was clearly signed as a back-up option.

Without any real solid statistics to run on, Ahmed Hegazi seems an interesting signing for Fantasy Premier League as a 6ft 5in unit at centre back, he could prove to be a little gem. With completion coming from 2016/17 key man Gareth McAuley, Craig Dawson and Jonny Evans, I can only see Hegazi being a backup option again unless he impresses in pre-season.

Priced at only 4.5m on FPL its possible he will find himself in a lot of opening drafts and early gameweeks. However, I’d advise to keep looking at West Brom’s pre-season starting XI’s, and a starter from a newly promoted team could prove more beneficial for crucial points.

West Broms opening fixtures are as follows; Bournemouth(H), Burnley (A), Stoke (H), Brighton (A) & West ham (A).
