Fantasy Football Potential – Jonas Lossl

Huddersfield have signed goalkeeper Jonas Lossl from German side Mainz on a season long loan deal. The Dane replaces former Liverpool loanee Danny Ward at the Terriers and he has some big boots to fill, considering Ward saved crucial penalties against Sheffield Wednesday and Reading in the play offs.

Jonas Lossl played 27 times in the Bundesliga last season and an additional seven in the various cups in Germany. He kept 6 clean sheets in those games as the German side finished 15th in the League and were knocked out swiftly in the Europa League.

David Wagner says:

“Jonas has all the skills that you want from a modern goalkeeper; he is a good shot-stopper, he is a real presence and he is good with the ball at his feet too”

Fantasy Football Potential

Lossl is one of many goalkeepers on FPL who are priced at 4.5m. There is no doubt that the Dane will start for the Terriers, but will he get the clean sheets he needs to cement a place in a vast amount of FPL teams?

He has just a 0.4% ownership currently, so the 6ft 5 keeper could be a good differential option if Huddersfield start life in the Premier League well. Last season, Huddersfield kept an impressive 17 clean sheets last season in all competitions and if they can replicate something similar this season, Lossl could become a great option in FPL.

Huddersfield’s opening fixtures are as follows; Crystal Palace (A), Newcastle (H), Southampton (H), West Ham (A) and Leicester (H). Every game will be difficult for the Terriers but these look as favourable as they will come and they’ll need to pick up at least half a dozen points from these fixtures if they are to stay up.
