Fantasy Football Potential – Mamadou Sakho

Crystal Palace have secured the services of Liverpool central defender Mamadou Sakho for a fee in the region of £26 million. The Frenchman impressed in a loan spell at Selhurst Park last season, which has evidently persuaded Palace manager de Boer to splash the cash on the defender.

When Allardyce brought Mamadou Sakho in last season, Palace were not in a great place defensively or position wise. However, Sakho helped changed that and secured up the Eagles’ back line which secured the Premier League status for the club.

Here’s what Mamadou Sakho had to say about his move;

“I am really excited about playing for the Palace fans again, but in football the past is the past and you need to think about today and tomorrow. Last year we did a good job and we need to prove that again and have a good objective. If we put all of our power together, we will have a great season.”

Fantasy Football Potential

Sakho isn’t exactly the first name on everybody’s team sheet, but he is a useful FPL option. Last season he scored 34 points in just under 700 minutes of football, meaning he averaged around 4 and a half points per 90 minutes.

He is currently priced at 4.9m on FPL, which does make him ever so slightly cheaper than Reidwald, but more expensive than the likes of Fosu-Mensah, who may be the casualty for Sakho’s return to the Palace starting line up.

Crystal Palace’s next five fixtures are as follows: Burnley (A), Southampton (H), Manchester City (A), Manchester United (A) and Chelsea (H). These fixtures do take a turn for the worse with two trips to Manchester so I would avoid selecting any Palace players. Also Sakho is currently out with a knee injury so he has no use in your team for the next few gameweeks, but could be an option in the long term.
