FPL Captaincy Analysis – Gameweek 18 Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

As one gameweek ends, another starts! Don’t you just love midweek gameweeks? Well before we look towards the fixtures this weekend and who we should captain, here’s how last week’s FPL Captaincy Analysis did:

1. Harry Kane – 2 points
2. Eden Hazard – 3 points
3. Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 1 point
Differential – Riyad Mahrez – 8 points
Gamble – Sergio Aguero – 6 points

Now onto this week’s picks:

1. Mohamed Salah (BOU)

A rare blank for Salah last week meant that there were about 2.4m upset FPL managers, however, unless you captained him, it probably had no effect on your rank anyway. This week, Liverpool play a Bournemouth side with only 4 clean sheets to their name, and with Liverpool trying to catch up to the top 3, Klopp will be desperate for Salah to play well. We all know what Salah is capable of as he is the top scorer in the league this season, so I’d recommend him to those who need to maintain their ranking, as he is owned by 45% of managers!

2. Eden Hazard (SOU)

Another player who surprisingly blanked this week was Eden Hazard, and despite Chelsea scoring three, he played little part in all three. A little disappointing from Hazard, however, he was absolutely fantastic from the first minute to the 69th. This week, Chelsea play Southampton at home, a team who conceded 4 goals at home to Leicester, and surely if Leicester can do it, Chelsea can as well. Their confidence will be damaged from the game, and if you watched it, you’d realise how poorly their defending was as Vardy, Okazaki and Mahrez all terrorised the Saints defence!

3. Wayne Rooney (SWA)

It feels like I’m back in 2013 with picking Wayne Rooney! Since Big Sam’s arrival, Rooney has been in amongst the goals and he’s now one of the league’s top scorers with 9. No one would have expected that at the start of the season! He’s been running the games for Everton and been highly influential in why they’re now starting to win their games! This week, Everton are playing Swansea at home, and this, on paper, should be a thrashing. Everton have only lost 3 times at home in 2017 and have not lost in their last 5 matches. Meanwhile, Swansea, who conceded 4 to Man City (and gave one of the worst defensive performances I’ve ever seen), have been in woeful form and this could end up being embarrassing for the Swans.

Differential – David De Gea (WBA)

My differential option in the past few weeks have certainly delivered, and this week, I’ve stuck my neck on the line and decided to tip De Gea, and no, I haven’t been on drugs. The reason being is that De Gea has been getting high points on a consistent basis this season. He scored 11 points last gameweek, and has scored 7 points (or more) 11 times out of a possible 17 times, which is the highest from any player in the league. Compare that to Mo Salah, who has only done that 10 times. Putting it like that, and it actually sounds logical. He’s made 66 saves, which is 2nd only to Lukas Fabianski, and with an away game coming to West Brom, who have failed to score in 8 of their games this season, it’s likely that De Gea will keep a clean sheet.

Gamble – Harry Kane (MCI)

Kane this year has been incredibly inconsistent and has only scored in back-to-back games twice this season. He blanked to Brighton and had 10 chances to score, hitting the post on one of those chances. These type of chances ended up in the back of the net last year but Kane seems to have lost his scoring touch, which is unusual to say considering he’s scored 12 goals this season! This week, Spurs have a very tough challenge and face Man City, who have only kept 2 clean sheets in their last 8 games. They’ve been leaking goals since the injury of John Stones and yes, despite that, it’s still a massive gamble, but can Spurs stop Man City’s winning streak?
