Kyle Walker – Fantasy Football Potential

One year after they paid Everton a record £47.5 million for John Stones; Manchester City have again broken the transfer fee record for a defender by agreeing to a £50 million fee with add ons, for Tottenham Hotspur’s Kyle Walker.

The Sheffield born fullback exchanged Sheffield United for the London club in the summer of 2009 for a sum of around £5 million. 8 seasons later, Kyle Walker, arguably the best right back in the Premier League today, he makes the switch to Manchester City, eager to prove his hefty price tag.

Fantasy Football Potential

Kyle Walker played 33 times last season for Spurs starting 31 of those matches. He was very much instrumental in the Spurs’ best ever run in the Premier League era and one of their best ever seasons. He was part of the best defence in the league conceding the fewest goals (21) in Premier League, whilst keeping 14 clean sheets. During the course of the season, he had 6 assists to his name, playing a total of 2,701 minutes.

Walker delivered 39 key passes and 1,169 accurate passes amounting to a pass completion rate of 80%. If stats are anything to go by, Kyle Walker has had most interceptions (374) and most tackles won (343) by a Spurs player since 2011/12 season.

In UEFA Champions league, Walker started 3 matches playing 270 minutes, delivering 4 key passes and making 137 accurate passes. After Spurs were knocked out of Champions League, Walker started and played in 2 UEFA Europa League matches, making 74 accurate passes and delivered 4 key passes.

Walker plies his trade as a right back, while occasionally he can be deployed at right midfield too. With the clearing out that has undergone with Manchester City squad this transfer window, it’s needless to say Walker is bound to start every match for the Men in Blue. Manchester City had been identifying Walker as one of their prime targets for a long time now and upped their approach once Dani Alves made the move in favour of PSG instead of City.

Priced at 6.5m, he is in the uppermost price range among defenders in Fantasy Premier League. Only Marcos Alonso of Chelsea has a higher price at 7.0m. Playing in a team of talented individuals, it can be hoped Walker justifies his price and rewards the fantasy managers who will surely have him in their teams.
