Captaincy Analysis – FPL Gameweek 2 Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Welcome to our Captaincy Analysis for the upcoming gameweek 2. Last week saw some impressive scores with many highly selected players bringing home solid returns. Looking ahead to this week, I have identified five intriguing options for your captain’s armband so without further ado, let’s get into the analysis.

As usual, here’s how last week’s Captaincy Analysis picks did:

1. Mohamed Salah – 8 points
2. Sergio Aguero – 2 points
3. Christian Eriksen – 2 points
Differential – Richarlison – 14 points
Gamble – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 2 points

Now onto this week’s picks:

1. Sergio Aguero (HUD)

The Argentine is a popular selection for managers from the outset this year and despite a disappointing 2 point return in gameweek one, I would advise managers to keep faith with the Manchester City frontman. I say this because Aguero was unlucky not to find the back of the net on Sunday and with a home game against Huddersfield this week, it is likely that Aguero will be amongst the goals on Sunday. If you’re looking for a safe option for your captaincy then Aguero will probably be your best bet.

2. Mohamed Salah (CRY)

Salah is owned by well over 50% of managers so is the polar opposite of a differential captain, but as shown with his astonishing stats from last season, the Egyptian is lethal in front of goal which means he’s a pretty safe bet to score highly. His Liverpool side picked up where they left off in gameweek one with a routine 4-0 victory over West Ham and while Crystal Palace are likely to be well drilled and tough to break down, the Liverpool front line has the firepower to break down most sides, so most observers would expect a victory for Liverpool. If the past 12 months is anything to go off, the Egyptian is almost certain to be key to his side and for this reason is a difficult player to disregard when considering your captain.

3. Richarlison (SOU)

The Brazilian attacker was hugely impressive in gameweek one and was good value for his brace against newly promoted Wolves. Managers may be put off by the news that Richarlison was taken off late in the game with what appeared to be a muscle injury but Marco Silva has assured the media that the Everton man was not seriously hurt and should feature in gameweek two against a Southampton side who will require a big improvement on last season to be competitive this season. Everton are expected to introduce several of their deadline day signings to the team this week which should help Richarlison’s service. While this choice is perhaps riskier than some of the big hitters, I believe Richarlison will bag some big returns on his home debut so is definitely worth keeping in your thoughts.

Differential – Aleksander Mitrovic (TOT)

Fulham made their return to the top flight last week and were unlucky to lose to Crystal Palace, but will take many positives from that performance into gameweek two which sees Fulham travel to Tottenham, who didn’t look overly impressive against Newcastle on the opening day. Mitrovic was a handful for the Palace defence which suggests he may well be amongst the goals this week. The Serbian international is good value at 6.5 million so Mitrovic is certainly worth considering if you’re looking for a left field captain this week.

Gamble – Harry Kane (FUL)

Ordinarily if Spurs and Harry Kane were facing a newly promoted side at home (even if their home isn’t built yet), then Kane would be considered a safe bet for the captain’s armband. But, as any seasoned FPL player will tell you, it seems Harry Kane has been told that the season starts on September 1st. Despite Kane never actually scoring a league goal in August before, surely a player with such finishing ability can’t blank forever? If you believe that Harry Kane’s long August drought will end this Saturday then taking the risk could bring big rewards.

Thanks for reading and good luck this week!
