Differential Picks – FPL Gameweek 16 Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Riyad Mahrez was the star differential in Gameweek 15, scoring and assisting in Manchester City’s midweek win at Watford. Yet again, it’s another quick turnaround so it’s time to pick out another five differentials ahead of Gameweek 16.

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE – £9.6m – TSB: 10.1% – Huddersfield (H)

The rules here state that a differential is a player with under 10% ownership, so picking Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette is bending the rules (very slightly), though he was under the marker until very recently. However, with his strike partner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being bought at an astounding rate, alongside Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Lacazette has travelled slightly under the radar ahead of Gameweek 16. Lacazette was sidelined with a groin injury for the Gameweek 13 fixture at Bournemouth and despite only recovering to make the bench in the last two fixtures, Lacazette has come on to return a goal and an assist over this period. Lacazette ranks higher for threat than his more expensive counterpart Aubameyang, ahead of a fixture against a Huddersfield side that went down to Bournemouth midweek.

JAVIER HERNANDEZ – £6.3m – TSB: 2.9% – Crystal Palace (H)

Most owners of Marko Arnautovic have spent weeks concerned the Austrian’s dodgy knee would keep him out of action ahead of West Ham’s nice fixture run. Turns out his knee has held up, but his hamstring hasn’t, and he’ll be out until the New Year. There are a number of mid-priced replacements, but one good option may be Javier Hernandez in a like-for-like switch. Hernandez as a fellow West Ham player retains the great fixture list, starting with an out-of-sorts Crystal Palace side that just conceded three goals at Brighton; the Seagulls scored twice with 10 men. Hernandez scored twice in Gameweek 14 and his starting place looks more secure in the absence of Arnautovic.

SEAD KOLASINAC – £4.9m – TSB: 1.7% – Huddersfield (H)

Most well-versed fantasy managers steer clear of a leaky Arsenal defence when making their picks. However, as Nacho Monreal proved last season with 5 goals, and as Hector Bellerin has shown so far this campaign with 4 assists, Arsenal defenders do possess some attacking threat. Sead Kolasinac arrived at Arsenal in 2017 with a big reputation, having directly contributed to 12 goals in the previous season with German side Schalke. He has since been in and out of the side but has started the last five league games, assisting twice away at Bournemouth. Kolasinac has managed more penalty box touches than any listed defender or forward over the last four Gameweeks.

FLORIN ANDONE – £5.0m – TSB: 0.3% – Burnley (A)

Generally, the go-to fantasy forward from Brighton has been consistent veteran Glenn Murray. However, budget striker Florin Andone has made his case for some attention in recent weeks. Manager Chris Hughton gave Andone his first league start of the season in Gameweek 14, with the Romanian impressing and scoring against Huddersfield. Despite being relegated to the bench the following Gameweek, Andone replaced an injured Murray after the half hour mark and picked up another goal in Brighton’s impressive home victory against Crystal Palace. Regardless of Murray’s involvement, the energetic Andone looks to have done enough to start at a Burnley side that have allowed their opponents more shots (316) than any other side in the league this campaign. At a very cheap price, Andone might be worth a punt.

STUART ARMSTRONG – £5.1m – TSB: 0.9% – Cardiff (A)

Southampton don’t have too many players noteworthy from an FPL perspective. Stuart Armstrong may be an exception to the rule, though. Armstrong has started the last four league games, scoring twice at Fulham and once in the home draw with Manchester United. Armstrong has taken seven shots in his last two games and looks good value at his price point. Southampton take on Cardiff in new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first game in charge – will Armstrong be a beneficiary of a ‘new manager bounce’? After all, Hasenhuttl’s previous job saw his RB Leipzig side recently finish second in the Bundesliga, scoring plenty of goals in the process.

Good luck all!
