Fantasy Football Potential – Alisson Becker

Liverpool have made the much needed signing of goalkeeper Alisson Becker from Roma for a fee of £66 million making him the most expensive goalkeeper of all time, surpassing his Brazilian team mate Ederson, who joined Manchester City last summer.

Alisson is ahead of Ederson in the Brazil national team, starting all of their games in Russia as they reached the quarter finals before being knocked out by Belgium. He has 31 international caps in total since his debut in 2015. He played against Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals and despite conceding seven and being knocked out, made the team of the tournament.

Alisson has told Liverpoolfc.com:

“I’m really happy, it’s a dream come true to wear such a prestigious shirt for a club of this size that is used to always winning. In terms of my life and my career, it’s a huge step for me being part of this club and this family. You can be certain that I’ll give my all.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (5.5m)

Alisson has been priced at £5.5m which is what most people expected him to be. It would have been nice to see him at £5.0m like Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, but with the calibre of the signing and guarantee of the starting position, it is not surprising.

Liverpool have been criticised for their defence in recent times, but did keep 17 Premier League clean sheets last year and if you combine Karius and Mignolet’s points, they would become the third highest scoring keeper in the League. This provides good reading for those who are considering Alisson for their FPL team.

Liverpool’s first five fixtures are as follows: West Ham (H), Crystal Palace (A), Brighton (H), Leicester (A) and Tottenham (A). It’s a reasonable start for Jurgen Klopp’s side and I can see them getting at least two clean sheets for these matches which will mean Alisson will be a decent option to start with and possibly the whole season.
