Tottenham – Fantasy Premier League Potential – Fantasy Football Tips

The 2017/18 season was very similar for Tottenham as the previous few seasons. They played very nice football, beat some of the big teams, reached the later stages of the Cup, but went without a single trophy for the whole campaign, could this season be different?

They have failed to add to their squad as yet but importantly haven’t lost any of their key players. Multiple players have also signed contract extensions and their goalkeeper Hugo Lloris lifted the World Cup in Russia earlier in the month.

Tottenham’s first five fixtures are as follows: Newcastle (A), Fulham (H), Manchester United (A), Watford (A) and Liverpool (H). It’s a mixed bag to start with for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Their opening game is identical to last year and their game against Liverpool will be the first at the new White Hart Lane as the home match with Fulham will be played at Wembley.

STAR MAN: Harry Kane (£12.5m)

Kane will be looking to register 20+ Premier League goals for a fifth consecutive season going into the 2018/19 and barring a long term injury I can see him easing past that mark. He’s been Tottenham’s talisman for a few years now but a renowned weakness of his is that he can’t score in August.

The stat is well known across the FPL community and the internet in general, but this season should be the season he breaks that duck. He scored six times in England’s World Cup journey earning him the golden boot, but did not look 100% which may have been due to Tottenham rushing him back from injury.

Kane has an emphatic total of 843 points over the last three seasons giving him an average of over 210 points a season. If he reaches that landmark this campaign then his huge price tag should be ignored as not too many players can achieve that. He has decent records against the opposition they face in the first few games and will look to claim the Premier League golden boot back from Mo Salah.

HIDDEN GEM: Kieran Trippier (£6.0m)

Another one of England’s heroes from the World Cup was Kieran Trippier. He made it into the team of the tournament and changed the perspectives of many football fans of him which is difficult to say the least. So much so, over a quarter of FPL managers have selected the Englishman.

What intriguing the most about him is the set piece he took in Russia. He scored the exquisite free kick against Croatia and was on point with a lot of deliveries throughout the World Cup. Christian Eriksen is normally on set piece duties but with Trippier’s performances from dead ball situations this summer, he could ask a few questions of the Dane.

A main concern of Trippier’s FPL potential is the fact that Pochettino likes to rotate his full backs, so Trippier may not get a significant amount of game time. He played under 2,000 minutes last season but still managed seven assists and ultimately 113 points which is very good for the amount of time he played.

BARGAIN- Erik Lamela (£6.5m)

Lamela joined Spurs from Roma back in the 2013/14 season, but is yet to set the world alight in North London. His most prolific season was back in the 2015/16 campaign where he scored five and set up nine goals, leading to the Argentine getting 123 points, but has just 83 points in his last two years combined.

Lamela could be an option at £6.5m this season as Heung-min Son will miss a part early in the season due to international commitments. He will be off to the Asian games after the game against Newcastle to compete for South Korea as their over age player. If they win the tournament, he avoids national service which will benefit Spurs for the future as he wouldn’t spend over a year away from football.

I believe Lamela will be next in line ahead of Lucas Moura to replace Son and at his price will be a major bargain. He’s also shown he is in good touch in preseason, scoring a first half hattrick in a convincing win against Southend in a friendly. He also showed good form at the back end of last season, scoring twice on the last day against Leicester. He will be eager to make a mark at Spurs and with the fixtures they have coming up, he could have a good chance.
