Fantasy Football Potential – Riyad Mahrez

Manchester City have spent big on Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez. The fee for the Algerian is in the region of £60 million making him their record signing. Mahrez was linked with City is January, but the deal fell through, however this has now completed his move to Manchester.

Mahrez was instrumental in Leicester’s title winning campaign and also impressed last season where he hit double figures for both goals and assists. For Algeria he has eight goals in 39 appearances, but they failed to qualify for the World Cup in Russia.

Manchester City Director of Football Txiki Begiristain said:

“Riyad is a hugely talented player. He beats defenders and creates space. Over the past few years, he has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting players. We’re sure he will bring additional attacking quality to our squad.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (9.0m)

Mahrez has been an Fantasy Premier League legend for a couple of years now and it’s clear to see why. In the 2015/16 season he scored 240 points and his ending price was just £7.2m, meaning he was a bargain at both the start and the end of the season, despite his majority ownership.

Last season he reached 195 points which is fantastic value for money for the price he was. This year his price is £9.0m making him cheaper than the likes of Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling. However he may find his game time cut as the competition for places at City is strong, so he may not be such a good option.

Manchester City’s first five fixtures are as follows: Arsenal (A), Huddersfield (H), Wolves (A), Newcastle (H) and Fulham (H). Aside from Arsenal, Pep Guardiola couldn’t have asked for a much easier start to their season and Man City players will certainly be in the points.
