Gameweek 8 Review – FPL Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 8 would see the most anticipated clash of the Premier League season so far as Manchester City travelled to Anfield to face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Sunday. On Saturday, Jose Mourinho knew that failing to beat Newcastle United at Old Trafford could see him relieved of his duties. Spurs hosted Cardiff City at Wembley, while Wolves made the journey South to face Crystal Palace. Burnley hosted Huddersfield Town at Turf Moor, with Leicester facing Everton. Anyway, here’s the FPL Updates Gameweek 8 Review…

Goalkeeper

Rui Patricio – For a second week running Wolves stopper Rui Patricio features in our review. The Portugal international was in strong form yet again as Wolves continued their superb form in the Premier League, running out 1-0 winners at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace. The stats make poor reading for Palace, having failed to find the net on their own patch so far. The Eagles fans will hope that come May there are three worse sides, although the South London side are notoriously slow starters.

Defenders

Matt Doherty – Another Wolves man to feature for a second consecutive week is none other than Irish wing-back Matt Doherty. He took the starring role as his side beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, netting the winner early in the first half. In the first ever Premier League meeting between the sides Raul Jimenez sent Doherty through on goal to finish past Wayne Hennessey to give the away side their second win on the road this campaign. Nuno’s side will be delighted to take all three points at a ground renowned for being a difficult place to go.

Davinson Sanchez – Spurs started as strong favourites as they entertained struggling Cardiff City at Wembley on Saturday. Neil Warnock’s side have yet to register a win in the Premier League and knew that it wouldn’t be easy to find their first against a Spurs side competing on many fronts this season. In the end the Bluebirds would go down 1-0 to a goal from Eric Dier within eight minutes. However, the real talking point was a horrendous challenge from Joe Ralls on Lucas Moura, which would see the Cardiff man sent off via a straight red.

Dejan Lovren – Neutrals all over the world were excited for the battle between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, with the sides tipped to battle it out for the Premier League title this season. The match, which normally produces goals, was a relatively cagey affair with few clear-cut chances until the very end. With a couple of minutes remaining Virgil van Dijk tripped Leroy Sané to give Riyad Mahrez the chance to win it from the spot. However, after taking the ball from Gabriel Jesus the former Leicester man fired high and wide, to the frustration of the City faithful.

Midfielders

Eden Hazard & Ross Barkley – Chelsea travelled to Southampton as favourites and lived up to the tag as they put in a good performance to beat the Saints 3-0 on the day. Eden Hazard opened the scoring as he slotted past Alex McCarthy in the first half. They doubled their advantage around the hour as Ross Barkley tapped home from close range. Alvaro Morata added gloss to the score line as he dinked in a third for the Blues after being put through by a lovely pass from Eden Hazard. It’s worth mentioning several brilliant saves made from Chelsea stopper Kepa while the scores sat at 1-0.

Anthony Martial & Juan Mata – Jose Mourinho would have been all too aware of the pressure he was under as his side welcomed Newcastle United to Old Trafford on Saturday evening. So, it’s only natural that he may have felt somewhat defeated as his side went two down within ten minutes courtesy of goals from Kenedy and Muto. However, the Red Devils fought back, and managed to grind out a priceless 3-2 win. Two goals in six minutes from Mata and Martial hauled United level, before the much-criticised Alexis Sanchez headed home the winner in injury time to spark pandemonium among the home faithful.

Forwards

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Arsenal travelled to West London to face Fulham having won eight consecutive matches in all competitions and continued their excellent form by dismantling a Fulham side that is struggling to keep goals out at the moment. After going a goal up through Alex Lacazette, Arsenal were pegged back through Andre Schurrle. However, they bit back in the second half, with another for Lacazette, one for Aaron Ramsey and a late brace for former Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Callum Wilson & Joshua King – Few would have backed AFC Bournemouth as they travelled to face Watford, whose form seems to have deserted them after a superb start to the season. The Cherries hit the front early at Vicarage Road on Saturday as David Brooks fired home, before Christian Kabasele received a second yellow shortly after, giving Josh King the chance to score from the spot. The Norway international converted before picking up his second before half time. Callum Wilson added a fourth early in the second half, and in reality, it could have been more for the Cherries, who coasted out the rest of the match to record an impressive victory.
