Gameweek 28 Review – FPL Tips

Gameweek 28 would see us into the final run-in of Premier League action in what has been yet another enthralling season of action. Norwich City hosted Leicester on Friday night to kick off the weekend, before Crystal Palace travelled to Brighton on Saturday. Elsewhere AFC Bournemouth hosted Chelsea before Watford welcomed Liverpool. Sunday would see Manchester United travel to Goodison to face Everton while Spurs welcomed Wolves to North London. Anyway, here’s the FPL Updates gameweek review…

Goalkeeper

Vicente Guaita – There was a derby on the South Coast as Brighton and Hove Albion welcomed Crystal Palace to the AMEX on Saturday. Always a hot-tempered clash there were chances for both sides, and Vicente Guaita in the Eagles’ net made several classy saves as his side entered the late stages level. However, Jordan Ayew would get on the end of a Christian Benteke pass to squeeze the winner through Mat Ryan, sparking wild scenes in the away end.

Defenders

Marcos Alonso – Chelsea travelled to AFC Bournemouth looking to end a spell of poor form in recent months. They could be forgiven for thinking they might do so as Marcos Alonso put the Blues in front. However, a quickfire second half double from the Cherries turned the game on its head and it looked to be same old story for Frank Lampard’s side. However, wing-back Alonso would net his and his side’s second to ensure they returned to London with a point.

Jamal Lewis & Max Aarons – Norwich City looked dead and buried at the foot of the Premier League table and welcomed an impressive Leicester City side to Carrow Road on Friday night. The Foxes were expected to win comfortable, but it would be the Canaries who took all three points as Jamal Lewis hammered home an excellent volley in the second half. Daniel Farke’s side may begin have found some hope of an unlikely survival attempt.

Matt Doherty – One of Wolves’ standout players over the past couple of seasons has undoubtedly been Republic of Ireland international full back Matt Doherty, whose attacking abilities are among the Premier League’s very best. He all too often finds himself in the right place at the right time in the opposition penalty area and did so again as he netted against Spurs in North London on Sunday as the midlands side secured an unlikely win.

Midfielders

Ismaila Sarr – Watford fans were excited in summer as the Hertfordshire club announced their new record signing of Senegal international winger Ismaila Sarr. After a slow start to life in the Premier League he’s shot to life under Nigel Pearson and found himself back in the side to face Liverpool at Vicarage Road. In a quiet contest the game shot to life when Sarr converted from close range, leaving the undefeated league leaders staring down the barrel…

Michail Antonio & Pablo Fornals – West Ham United knew that with difficult fixtures to come they needed to secure a win at home to Southampton on Saturday. They started well as Jarrod Bowen scored his first goal for his new club, but their joy was short-lived as Michael Obafemi levelled shortly after. However, the Hammers did manage to come away with the win courtesy of goals from Sebastian Haller and Michail Antonio on the day.

Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United could really have used a win away at Everton on Sunday afternoon as they look to play catchup with the top four. They got off to the worst possible start when David De Gea cannoned the ball off Dominic Calvert-Lewin and into the back of his own net. However, new boy Bruno Fernandes would hammer home from range, although Jordan Pickford should probably have done better. Both sides had chances to win it but had to settle for a point.

Forwards

Diogo Jota – Wolves twice came from behind away at Spurs on Sunday to secure a brilliant win. Diogo Jota was undoubtedly the star of the show, netting and brilliantly assisting Raul Jimenez’s winner in front of the travelling fans. Jota builds on some spectacular goalscoring form which has seen him become one of the most feared attackers around now in the Premier League. It remains to be seen just how high Wolves can finish this season.

Troy Deeney – Having just taken the lead against Liverpool at Vicarage Road, Ismaila Sarr sparked pandemonium again as he ran through and dinked in his second past Alisson. Liverpool knew a first league defeat was on the cards, and things got worse when an error from Trent Alexander-Arnold presented Sarr with the chance to square the ball to Troy Deeney who lobbed in a third. What a result for Watford, while the Reds were left wondering how this happened.
