Euro 2016 Preview – Northern Ireland – Fantasy Football Tips

Northern Ireland stunned the continent when they won their qualification group to book their place at Euro 2016 and compete in their first ever Euro’s. Just one loss in ten qualifying games mean that Michael O’Neill’s players will be available for selection in this summer’s fantasy football competition. Let’s take a closer look at the standout performers in their 23-man squad.

Defence

38-year-old Roy Carroll will be in between the sticks and the former Manchester United man may be a decent option to have as a backup goalkeeper on the game. All but one of the defence play in England and Premier League trio Craig Cathcart, Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley will all be looking to keep out continental attacks from their opposition. McAuley scored three goals in qualifying as well, so he could be one to keep an eye on, in what will most certainly be his first and only international tournament with the British outfit.

Midfield

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis may well be also expected to chip in with the goals. Scoring twice in qualifying, he also showed under Ronald Koeman that he knows where the back of the net is, with five goals and three assists in the Premier League season that saw the Saints make the Europa League groups stages. Fellow countryman Jamie Ward scored twice this season in the second tier for Nottingham Forest.

Forwards

Kyle Lafferty will lead the line for Northern Ireland. The Birmingham City man scored seven goals in ten qualification games, but has failed to deliver such fine form at club level. However, Northern Ireland also have another attacking option who is on fire at the moment, in Will Grigg.
