Euro 2016 Preview – Portugal – Fantasy Football Tips

Portugal will want to prove a point at Euro 2016, following a disastrous group phase exit at the World Cup in Brazil two years ago. Inevitably, they will have the most high profile player in fantasy football available to them in Cristiano Ronaldo, although there are 22 other players Portugal have to offer in addition. They won their group in qualification and will be looking to do the same in the tournament itself.

Defence

Rui Patricio will be their goalkeeper and he will have some brilliantly experienced defenders in front of him. Real Madrid defender Pepe will be solid as a rock and it will be difficult to get past him. Former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho will also be on the plane after coming out of international retirement. Southampton duo Jose Fonte and Cedric Soares are also potential options for us, as we know them well from Fantasy Premier League.

Midfield

Sporting CP trio Adrien Silva, William Carvalho and Joao Mario make the squad. They finished second to Benfica in the Portuguese League, with Mario scoring six goals and Silva scoring seven, meaning there are definitely goals to come from the midfield, especially in a group that contains; Austria, Iceland and Hungary respectively. Valencia’s Andre Gomes also makes the cut, as well as former Sporting player Joao Moutinho.

Forwards

That Cristiano Ronaldo bloke is alright at football, apparently. Just the 51 goals for him this season in all competitions makes him an ideal player to have in your fantasy football squads. Ronaldo plays up front as a striker for Portugal and is likely to play in a 4-4-2 alongside his former Manchester United teammate Nani, who scored eight goals in Turkey for Fenerbahce this campaign.
