Manchester United FPL Preview – Fantasy Football Tips

Manchester United finished last season in a disappointing 6th position. This left many fans, including myself extremely let-down knowing how big a club Manchester United is. This also means that United will not play in the Champions League next season.

United have made a few summer signings thus far with more expected to happen as deadline day approaches. The current new signings include; Daniel James, the 21 year old speedster that was signed for a fee of £15 million from Swansea. The other signing was Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the talented right back from Crystal Palace was bought by United for a fee of £50 million.

United have also let go of a few players including; Ander Herrera, Keiran O’Hara, Regan Poole, Antonio Valencia and Matthew Willock.

Preseason form

5 out of 5 wins so far in preseason for United. This will give the club and players a confidence boost going into the new season.

Manchester United’s Preseason Games:

Perth Glory (2-0 win) – Goals: Rashford & Garner
Star player/s: James & Pogba.

Leeds United (4-0 win) – Goals: Greenwood, Rashford, Jones & Martial
Star player/s: Rashford, Pogba & Wan-Bissaka

Inter Milan (1-0 win) – Goals: Greenwood
Star player/s: Wan-Bissaka & Greenwood

Spurs (2-1 win) – Goals: Martial & Gomes
Star player/s: Martial

Kristiansund (1-0 win) – Goals: Mata
Star player/s: Lindelof, Pogba, Wan-Bissaska

There are quite a few players in great preseason form, notably; Lindelof, Pogba, Wann-Bissaka, Greenwood, Rashford and Martial.

Star Man – Paul Pogba (£8.5m)

The star player in my opinion has to be none other than Paul Pogba. As long as he remains at United he is no doubt in contention to be the highest FPL points scorer for United once again come the end of next season.

Last season he scored a total of 179 points, making him the highest FPL points scorer in that Man United team. He managed 13 goals and 10 assists which is pretty impressive and not surprising since he is the core unit of United.

He is on penalties which also boosts his fantasy football appeal especially since 7 of his 13 goals came from them! He created 54 chances throughout the season, which indicates that he has great assist potential. Pogba also registered 105 goal attempts last season which is one every 28 minutes.

I fully expect him to continue his preseason form into the new season. He will be an important part of the United team once again this season, so investing in him may prove to be a great idea.

Hidden Gem – Anthony Martial (£7.5m)

Martial has flown slightly under the radar in previous seasons. Despite that, he is an extremely talented winger/goalscorer and if he finds form early on in the season, he could be a fairly cheap option into the United attack.

Last season he managed 10 goals and 4 assists. These stats might not seem so impressive at first, but considering he only made 18 starts, its very impressive.

Taking his total playing time in account, he created a chance every 45 minutes. He managed an attempt on goal every 45 minutes and had a goal conversion rate of 25%. Definitely one to monitor as the season progresses.

Gamble Pick – Alexis Sanchez (£7.0m)

No one enjoys seeing a talent like Alexis, out-of-form, he has huge potential as seen at Arsenal a few seasons back. He hasn’t quite found his feet yet at United.

His statistics from last season are pretty poor so there is not really any reason to mention any, however if Sanchez manages to find form and secure himself a starting position in Ole’s lineup he could become an absolute steal at only £7.0m in FPL! Definitely one for the watchlist.

Predicted Line-up

Wan-Bissaka – Lindelof – Jones – Shaw
McTominay – Pogba
