Gameweek 17 Captaincy Analysis – Fantasy Football Tips

The games are coming thick and fast and we are now looking down the barrel at gameweek 17. The deadline is fast approaching, but before we look at this weeks captaincy picks, here’s a breakdown of how last weeks picks did:

1. Jamie Vardy – 13 points
2. Saido Mane – 0 points
3. Son Heung-Min – 12 points
Differential – Gabriel Jesus – 2 point
Gamble – Tammy Abraham – 2 points

Fingers crossed for better returns this week, here’s our top picks for the up coming gameweek:

1. Jamie Vardy (NOR)

Don’t think there is anything more I can write about Vardy that I haven’t already wrote before in previous weeks! His brace last week against Aston Villa takes is tally up to 14 this season, but more importantly means he’s now scored 8 goals in a row, only the second player in Premier League history to do twice! He’s going for his own record 11, and I think he should improve it against Norwich this week, a team who have only kept two clean sheets all season!

2. Marcus Rashford (EVE)

While Vardy may be getting all the praise, and quite rightfully so, I think Rashford has sneaked under the radar. He’s only blanked once since GW8, scoring 7 goals and assisting three times in that time. He’s only owned by 20% of FPL managers too, a surprisingly low amount for someone in such good form! They take on an Everton side without a manager, and it’ll be interesting to see how they fare again under Duncan Ferguson, was last week a one-off, or is Big Dunc the real thing?

3. Saido Mane (WAT)

Maybe a surprise for a lot of people that Mane missed out last week for a rest, but I did write last week that I did think he’d be on the bench! I’d be very surprised if he was on the bench for the second week running though, so he’s definitely a player to consider for captaincy this week. Liverpool still have an amazing record of scoring in every game thus far, and I cannot see that coming to an end against bottom of the table Watford! Mane has also been in really good form (excluding his blank last week), scoring 4 and assisting 4 in the last 6 weeks!

Differential – Gabriel Jesus (ARS)

Jesus is the differential option for the second week in a row, and while he may have blanked against Man United, I still think he’s a good player to consider for captaincy this week against Arsenal, who have only kept two clean sheets all season. Jesus scored twice in the midweek game, taking his tally to 4 in 3 games now in all competitions, and as only 3% of FPL managers have selected him, I think he could have a really good week while Aguero is still injured!

Gamble – Tammy Abraham (BOU)

Seems strange having a player like Abraham as a gamble option, as he’s scored 11 goals this season, but since his injury I do think he’s looked slightly fatigued. Saying that though, he was desperately unlucky not to score against Everton, being inches away twice in the first half from crosses, and did score and assist in his game before that against Villa, so maybe this isn’t a huge gamble after all, but I am expecting him not to last the full 90 minutes against Bournemouth, I think he really needs a rest and it may come this week, so just something to consider when choosing a captain!
