This article will look at 5 players selected by under 5% of managers that could be strong differentials for gameweek 2 for a one week punt to push managers up the overall rankings.
Nicolas Pépé (£9.5m) – Arsenal – 4.6% TSB – Burnley (H)
Pepe was signed as a club record fee of £72 million and was on the bench for their opening game at Newcastle, coming on to make his debut late on. With Arsenal likely to have their full line-up back with Lacazette, Pepe and Aubameyang, there should definitely be goals there even against a resilient Burnley defence. In Ligue 1 last season he played 38 matches, scored 22 goals and assisted 11. This shows he can be heavily involved in Arsenal’s attack and with there being some testing fixtures this weekend for other teams Pepe could offer a very valuable differential.
Sébastien Haller (£7.5m) – West Ham – 4.1% TSB – Brighton (A)
West Ham looked strong against Man City for the opening half before they were eventually worn down. West Ham took 5 shots against city but managed to hold 45% possession. Haller showed his strong hold up play and physical presence on the opening day of the season and could definitely be what West Ham are looking for going forward. Last season he played 29 games in the Bundesliga scoring 15 goals with 9 assists and in the Europa League scored 5 with 3 assists in 10 games. With an easier fixture against Brighton, Haller should find more time on the ball and have a bigger impact on the game. As well as this West Ham have strong fixtures after and so could easily take up a permanent place in teams.
John McGinn (£5.5m) – Aston Villa – 4.7% TSB – Bournemouth (H)
Against Spurs, McGinn managed to score 7 points, being highly involved and Villa should see even more of the ball and create more chances against Bournemouth than they did against Spurs. McGinn is always involved and in the championship scored 6 goals and 10 assists in 40 matches. A strong home fixture combined with an attacking team could result in McGinn being heavily involved. As well as this Aston Villa have strong fixtures going forward and so could easily take up a permanent place in your teams.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£5.0m) – Arsenal – 3.7% TSB – Burnley (H)
He scored 12 points in gameweek 1 with a clean sheet and assist as well as bonus points in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Newcastle. With Bellerin out injured Niles will be trying to take the chance while he has hit to play his way into the Arsenal line-up. He loves getting forward putting crosses into the box and Arsenal have plenty of fire power to put those chances away. Also, Arsenal have the highest predicted clean sheet odds of 49% out of any premier league team so Niles could secure a clean sheet.
Miguel Almirón (£6.0m) – Newcastle – 0.9% TSB – Norwich (A)
In gameweek 1 he played against Newcastle and looked the most lively out of any Newcastle player but only returned 1 point. In gameweek 2 he plays against Norwich who should allow Newcastle to create a lot more chances. He is a midfielder in FPL but can play higher up the pitch as a second striker. For his MLS club before signing for Newcastle he returned 12 goals and 13 assists in 32 matches showing he has proven contributions to his teams.
