Fantasy Football Potential – Davide Zappacosta

The Champions Chelsea have signed Torino defender Davide Zappacosta for a fee believed to be around €28 million, which was completed just minutes before the deadline. The Italian defender seems to be back up for Victor Moses.

Davide Zappacosta spent two seasons at Torino, playing 56 Calcio A matches, scoring twice in the process. Internationally, he has played 5 times for Italy, the most recent of which coming in a 3-0 loss to Spain this September.

Zappacosta said;

“It is a dream for me to join Chelsea and play in the Premier League. I am very excited to be here and start working with the team. I hope I can show my quality to the coach, my team-mates and the supporters.”

Fantasy Football Potential

Zappacosta is priced at 6.0m which looks to be a tad expensive. Moses is almost certainly going to keep his place in Conte’s starting eleven due to the quality of his performances last season, so the Italian will be an expensive bench warmer.

However, Conte has spent a sufficient amount of money on him, which suggests he may play him in front of Moses, meaning he could be a great FPL option. I wouldn’t select Zappacosta until he has had a regular place in the team, as his price of 6.0m would be wasted on a non starting defender.

Chelsea’s next five fixtures are as follows: Leicester (A), Arsenal (h), Stoke (A), Manchester City (H) and Crystal Palace (A). These matches do look difficult even for the Champions. Zappacosta will be looking to make an impact on these fixtures if he is picked.
