Fantasy Football Potential – Tim Krul

Brighton and Hove Albion have signed Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul on a season long loan deal. The Dutch shot stoppers joins the Seagulls, as he as seemingly fell out of favour at Newcastle under manager Rafa Benitez.

Tim Krul spent last season out on loan at Dutch giants Ajax, but he played just 6 times for their reserves which forced the keeper to go elsewhere. He didn’t have to look too far as he signed for fellow Dutch side AZ Akmaar and played 16 Eredevise matches for them.

Here’s what Krul said about his move;

“When I heard Brighton were interested, it wasn’t a difficult decision. I know Chris Hughton very well from my time at Newcastle and I’ve been following the club’s results over the last couple of years.”

Fantasy Football Potential

Tim Krul has been priced on FPL at 4.0m, which could be a fantastic price. However, earlier in the summer, Brighton manager Chris Hughton purchased goalkeeper Matthew Ryan who will more than likely be the first choice keeper.

If Krul does start regularly in a Brighton shirt then he will be one of two 4.0m goalkeepers who are first choice, the other being Newcastle’s Rob Elliot. The 29 year old kept just 3 clean sheets in all competitions last season which may be worrying if you are thinking of selecting him.

Brighton’s next five fixtures are as follows: West Brom (H), Bournemouth (A), Newcastle (H), Arsenal (A) and Everton (H). These games could bring a couple of clean sheets for Brighton, but Krul will certainly not play against Newcastle, due to them being his parent club.
