Fantasy Football Potential – Marvin Zeegelaar

Watford have completed the signing of Sporting Lisbon defender Marvin Zeegelaar for an undisclosed fee. The Dutchman can also play in the midfield and received his first Netherlands call up in November 2016, but failed to register his first international cap.

For Sporting Lisbon last season, Marvin Zeegelaar played 28 times, but didn’t score a single goal for the Portuguese side. He did make 5 of those appearances in an unsuccessful Champions League campaign, which saw him come up against the likes of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Here’s what Zeegelaar had to say about his move;

“Everybody wants to play in the Premier League. For me, it’s the best league in the world. The football is good, the fans are great and the atmosphere is always loud. Every player you speak to, more or less, has the same idea.”

Fantasy Football Potential

Zeegelaar predominantly plays at left back meaning he will be competing against Greek international Jose Holebas for a place in the starting eleven. Holebas loves a booking so Zeegelaar will get his time in Marco Silva’s starting line up though suspensions at the least!

Zeegelaar is priced at 4.5m, which makes him exactly the same as all the other starting defenders, excluding the aforementioned Holebas. For the same price you can get Kiko Femenia who already has 17 FPL points and is more likely to start, so I would opt for Femenia ahead of Zeegelaar for the time being.

Watford’s next five fixtures are as follows: Southampton (A), Manchester City (H), Swansea (A), West Brom (A) and Arsenal (H). These matches will give a good indication on whether Zeegelaar has what it takes to hack it in the Premier League.
