Watford have announced the signing of defensive midfielder Callum Whelan on a free transfer, further strengthening the under-23’s. Whelan has signed a one year deal with an option of a further 12 months.
Whelan started his career with Manchester United, progressing through their youth academy and making appearances for their under-18’s and under-23’s.
During the 2018/19 campaign, Whelan was sent out on a 3 month loan to Port Vale, where he failed to make an appearance. Whilst during the first half of the campaign he made 11 appearances in the Premier League 2.
Fantasy Football Potential
Whelan will join up with the Watford under-23’s for the coming season and therefore any Premier League appearances this season will be unlikely. That said he is one for the future and one that Watford will look to bring through the ranks.
