FPL Updates XI – FPL Gameweek 33 – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Saved by the transfers!

As we hit the business end of the FPL season our GW32 was all about consolidation. We avoided the Wildcard and ran with much of our line up that did so well over the GW31 blank. We did however take a 4pt hit to bring in Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexis Sanchez and boy did they pay off. The move meant that we a healthy 60 and only fell 1.3k places to 28.8k. Given that we have all chips intact I’m more than happy with that.

Our decision to double up on the Burnley backline with Nick Pope and Ben Mee looked like it was going to pay off nicely. That was until Salomon Rondon struck late on to kill our lovely points haul. The 3rd time in their last 5 games that they have lost a clean sheet in the last 10 minutes. Very little as frustrating as seeing those points disappear from your in-play score. Marcos Alonso continued his dreadful FPL form with a solitary point at home to Spurs. That’s now just 7pts in the last 7 GW’s for the games most expensive defender. Andrew Robertson on the other hand continued his fine form with 8pts against Crystal Palace, even though Liverpool conceded. 38pts in his last 6 games is stunning form for any defender priced around the £5m mark. A real shame he doesn’t have a double upcoming.

Our midfield was a real mixed bag. Alexis Sanchez made his FPL Updates debut and had a stormer for us. 14pts from his goal and assist meant he registered his 2nd highest weekly total of the season. Perfect timing for us. His score was matched (as captain) by Mo Salah as he scored the late winner at Selhurst Park. Just 22pts off of the FPL record it’s going to be tight if his injury keeps him out for any league fixtures. Willian and Richarlison both blanked, combing for just 3pts. I’m not going to lie, I’m so excited to get rid of Richarlison. 11 straight blanks in the 11 GW’s we’ve owned him. It’s not been the best of relationships.

Up top newboy Aubameyang and came in with a double. If it wasn’t for his damn sporting behaviour giving Lacazette the late penalty he could have had a hattrick. Given that it was 0-0 with 15 minutes left I can’t complain too heavily. 13pts takes his total to 31pts over the last 3 GW’s. Roberto Firmino and Callum Wilson blanked to finish us off.

It was a fairly pleasing week with our two transfers picking up 27pts combined which fully justified the hit. With the the Wildcard button pressed it’s been a tough week with decisions and whether either have remained.

Begovic (OUT) – De Gea (IN)
Schindler (OUT) – Christensen (IN)
Daniels (OUT) – Dunk (IN)
Robertson (OUT) – Chilwell (IN)
Mee (OUT) – Lowton (IN)
Alonso (OUT) – Stephens (IN)
Sanchez (OUT) – Son (IN)
Richarlison (OUT) – Mahrez (IN)
Shaqiri (OUT) – Kenedy (IN)
Wilson (OUT) – Barnes (IN)
Firmino (OUT) – Kane (IN)

It’s Harry Kane time! With 11 transfers made on our Wildcard but with over 12 hours left until the deadline there is genuine possibility of are changes. Especially given the Salah headache we all have. As it stands he looks like he will be out for just the Everton game. If this is officially the case then I would happily keep him regardless of a lack of a DGW. What won’t change is the inclusion of ‘Arry. It’s that time of the year again where Kane is behind in the race for the Golden Boot and goes loco.

So the plan here is to keep the squad as it is but to switch out Aubameyang for Lukaku next week with our GW34 free transfer. But before we get that far ahead let’s look at how we line up this week.

Another minor headache at the moment is the return of Tom Heaton. So owning Nick Pope is a risky business. In all fairness we only need him to keep his place for the next 2 GW’s and I think given his impressive performances Sean Dyche will keep him between the posts for at least this week and the DGW. With that said we start him over David De Gea who I’m sure will concede against City.

At the back we start Ben Chilwell following his back to back assists. He lines up next to Lewis Dunk and Andreas Christensen. All 3 have nice fixtures this week but more importantly have a double next week.

Our midfield retains the services of the a certain Egyptian goal machine. As it stands I’m just too shit scared to switch Salah out. I actually think our squad would be better off with him out from a balanced perspective BUT if he is fit from next week then how can we not include him and Kane as they battle it out to be top scorer. He lines up against 3 that have a solid GW34 DGW but also look good this week. Heung Min Son, Riyad Mahrez and Willian are in. They all feature in the top 16 midfield scorers and I’m sure that form will continue.

Our front 3 is an eclectic mix of FPL gold, goalscoring form and budgetary appeal. As mentioned Harry Kane is back and who better to face than the team who have conceded more than any team in the league. Today’s presser suggests he should be starting so fingers crossed he is. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang also faces a team in the bottom 3 as he welcomes Southampton to The Emirates. He’s scoring goals and long may it continue. Well, only until we drop him after this week! Last up is Ashley Barnes. He’s started scoring worldies for fun but my gut says he blanks this week. To be honest it was meant to be Jamie Vardy here but that was on the premise that Salah was out. Barnes has never scored in 4 consecutive games in his professional career so he will be doing exceptionally if he makes it 5 this week. The DGW next week holds appeal though.

So there we have it. The long awaited Wildcard is in play. I think we look good for it but what hasn’t be determined is whether we use the Triple Captain or Bench Boost chip. This will be a decision late next week, I’m just more concerned with Salah this week and the fact that I’m drinking tonight so could quite possibly make a reckless 1am transfer. Report back to my Twitter account tomorrow am for the inevitable regret.

The other big decision though is who to captain. The poll as usual is open so all votes will be greatly appreciated. It’s a tough one this week.

Thanks all for reading and good luck!
